Management for Better Hospitals

IFBH experiences in a number of hospitals in Indonesia and overseas has shown us that all hospitals experience organization and management problems. Areas of problems are as follows:

  1. Visions, missions, objectives, development and business  strategies were developed  in the past and are not valid anymore.
  2. Hospital statutes, hospitals by-laws and medical by-laws are constrains to hospital operation.
  3. Organizational structures, coordination between units, and job descriptions are not clear
  4. Standard Operational Procedures (SOP) are not appropriate or not implemented.
  5. Lack of leadership and motivation that does not support hospital development.

IFBH has experience in helping hospitals solve their management problems utilizing empowerment approaches. This entitles that hospital managers and staff have to solve their problems and improve management of the hospital with close support and guidance of IFBH facilitators and associates,

These empowerment approaches are more effective and have proven to sustain change and development compared to the approach where hospital managers and staff have to implement management systems developed elsewhere.

Process

  • IFBH does an assessment of the entire hospital or part of the hospital that has been decided to be improved. This will include review of the relevant documents and interviews with the related managers and staff.
  • Assessment results will be presented and follow-up steps will be presented. If an agrrement is reached on assessments results and follow steps, intervention activies will be carried out.
